When I run a mile on a treadmill at around 8 miles an hour, it says I’ve only burned around 140 calories.. this occurs on /all/ the treadmills at my gym.. its not just one faulty one. So are calorie counters on treadmills accurate?

Well, I have always believed what my treadmill said, but I saw on a website that using a treadmill at the speed I do burns only about have of what the treadmill says it does (Of course the website was trying to show how much better their product was than other exercise equipment). Who should I believe? Also, I am trying to lose weight, so any other weight loss tips you have would be great.
